Is it "Benjamin" or "Binyamin"?

[edit]

In the economist article it keeps referring to him as Binyamin Netanyahu so which one is it? "Benjamin" or "Binyamin"? https://www.economist.com/middle-east-and-africa/2024/09/19/israels-government-is-again-trying-to-hobble-its-supreme-court DataCrusade1999 (talk) 13:16, 24 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@DataCrusade1999 Binyamin is the Hebrew pronunciation and spelling of the name Benjamin which is where the name originates from. Netanyahu is named after the biblical figure Benjamin whose name was spelled as Binyamin. FloridaMan21 02:17, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Under the "personal life" >> "family and background" section of this page, there is an unrelated quote (Regarding the Palestinian people, he stated: "That they won't be able to face [anymore] the war with us, which will include withholding food from Arab cities, preventing education, terminating electrical power and more. They won't be able to exist, and they will run away from here. But it all depends on the war, and whether we will win the battles with them."). While this may be a true quote, it is not "family and background" or "personal life" and therefore this is in the incorrect section. Lonesomecowboybill (talk) 08:19, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. This quote was misplaced on purpose as a propaganda. This quote should be placed somewhere in the "Political positions" section. 2600:6C44:117F:95BE:A027:6AAA:59C8:CCF6 (talk) 11:12, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
This isn't a quote from Benjamin Netanyahu but from Benzion Netanyahu. I'm not sure if it's relevant to this article, given it's his father's position and not his own, but the quote wasn't actually in that original source (Although it is mentioned in one source, 972 Magazine, which I've since tacked on). Netanyahu has now been prime minister of Israel for 17 years. 194.230.146.217 (talk) 06:43, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Counting day by day is original synthesis. No source says that he has been prime minister of Israel for 17 years. I think we should delete the number of years altogether. The fact that he's the longest serving prime minister in Israel's history is good enough. 2600:6C44:117F:95BE:A027:6AAA:59C8:CCF6 (talk) 11:20, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Done Being able to count is technically not considered original research by policy, though AP ("After tumbling in polls, Netanyahu clings to power and aims to improve political standing during war". 2024-01-03. Retrieved 2024-10-16.) and Forward (Kornbluh, Jacob (2024-01-04). "Analysis: Caught by surprise on Oct. 7, Netanyahu looks to preserve his power post-war". Retrieved 2024-10-16.) both mention it. "At MIT, Netanyahu studied a double-load while simultaneously taking courses at Harvard University, completing a master's degree in two and a half years" -> change to -> "At MIT, Netanyahu studied a double-load while simultaneously taking courses at Harvard University, completing a bachelor's degree in two and a half years."

Rationale: quote from the source, "When he showed he could handle the work, Mr. Netanyahu was permitted to continue with the double-load, enabling him-despite the break for war duty-to obtain the SB in architecture (art and design) in 2 and 1/2 years, in February 1975." SB stands for bachelor of science in Latin. 2600:6C44:117F:95BE:A027:6AAA:59C8:CCF6 (talk) 11:05, 30 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In 1976, Netanyahu graduated near the top of his class at the MIT Sloan School of Management.[1] -> replace this source with this source (2, source 46 in the article).

Rationale: source 1 does not have the cited information. Source 2 does. 2600:6C44:117F:95BE:BDFD:4CD3:6B69:33F1 (talk) 07:52, 11 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

minus Removed instead. Source 2 does not confirm graduation or marks, but source 1 is ambiguous on what and where. Sentence is partially redundant anyway. Alpha3031 (tc) 07:04, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Alpha3031 a quote from source 2: "Without breaking stride, Mr. Netanyahu, known to his friends as Bibi, went on to his studies at the Sloan School, co-authoring a nearly 100-page thesis and earning the SM in management in May, 1976." SM is Master of Science in Latin. "Near the top of his class" is unsourced. 2600:6C44:117F:95BE:712D:9586:53F9:76BC (talk) 04:56, 18 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Benjamin Netanyahu's birth name is Benjamin Mileikowsky. This should be stated clearly in the introduction. Not once in the article is their any reference to his original name. 82.1.108.5 (talk) 12:16, 11 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

In the Hamas and Hezbollah section, the sentence "In 2000, families of American victims of the attacks filed a lawsuit against Tlass, Kanaan and iranian Minister of Intelliigence Ali Fallahian" has two typos. "iranian" should be "Iranian" and "Intelliigence" should be "Intelligence". There are also three bare URL references after this sentence, which should likely be fixed to avoid Wikipedia:Link rot.
