Main Page error reports

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 19:25 on 28 September 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Errors with "In the news"

  • Could an uninvolved admin please PULL the blurb on the Israeli airstrike that killed the Hezbollah leader. The article has been orange tagged for NPOV which is an automatic pull until the tag/issues are resolved. Thanks. -Ad Orientem (talk) 16:37, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Nearly an hour later, still up there. I know it's Saturday most places still but come on folks. Pinging @Sandstein, the admin who posted the blurb. I seriously doubt pulling a blurb b/c another editor orange-tagged it, would count as an "involved" action re any sanction/dispute stuff, correct me if wrong. (If one edits the most visible page on the project, I really hope one would have its talk and subpages watchlisted.) --Slowking Man (talk) 17:29, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Looks like the tag was just removed within the last ten minutes or so. -Ad Orientem (talk) 17:30, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Articles about current events and controversial topics are continuously edited and may be tagged by anyone. That does not require pulling their blurb from the main page. Sandstein 17:51, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
In fairness this wasn't tagged when you posted it. But there is a very strong consensus supported by years of precedent that we do not promote orange tagged articles on the main page. NPOV tags, assuming they aren't frivolous and swiftly removed, are a showstopper at ITN. -Ad Orientem (talk) 18:02, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, and a tagged article will normally lack consensus to post. But once posted, normal editing processes apply. Otherwise anyone could remove an article from the main page by applying a tag. Sandstein 18:26, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
If there is a true legitimate NPOV problem that is identified post-posting that had been present at the time it was posted, as identified on the talk page, it is reasonable to pull the blurb. But if we're talking a drive-by POV tag posting without any commentary of what's the problem, that's useless tagging and it should be removed without removing the ITN blurb. Additionally, if material is added after the posting that swings the POV-ness of the article, that content should probably be removed or reverted. Masem (t) 18:40, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Right, that sounds reasonable. I don't touch stuff in that topic area with an 11-and-a-half foot pole, just being a messenger for main page talk stuff. Slowking Man (talk) 19:25, 28 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
